Scientific Games and the Louisiana Lottery are planning to maintain their momentum. The two entities recently agreed to a contract extension that will keep Scientific Games as the Louisiana Lottery’s primary provider of scratch-off games.

Scientific Games is the world’s largest producer of lottery content, with products that include instants, keno, lottery draw games, and digital offerings. SG has collaborated with the Louisiana Lottery since 2004.

The new agreement arrives with the Louisiana Lottery on pace for one of its highest-performing years ever in terms of scratch-off sales.

John Schulz, Scientific Games President of Americas and Global Instant Products, said in a press release:

“Our scratch-off game innovation helped drive one of the best years in the Louisiana Lottery’s history and ultimately, higher net proceeds to the state’s public education programs. We look forward to continuing our work as the Lottery’s primary instant game partner and providing new products and services that will help responsibly grow its profits.”

Scientific Games helped create first $20 scratch-off in Louisiana

The most recent products from the Scientific Games-Louisiana Lottery partnership have featured themed games related to the Pelican State, such as jazz music, Mardi Gras, king cake, and a licensed New Orleans Saints title. SG and the Louisiana Lottery have also collaborated on scratch-off games with higher price points, including the state’s first $20 option.

The move toward higher price points is a trend happening in Georgia and many other states in order to keep revenue and funds from stagnating.

Proceeds from the Louisiana Lottery benefit the state’s public education system.

The 2023 fiscal year produced a record $212 million in contributions to Louisiana’s state treasury for K-12 public education. This year is not expected to exceed that total, but the revenue generated for public education should once again top $200 million.

It’s a number that both Scientific Games and the Louisiana Lottery can be proud of.

Rose Hudson, President and CEO of the Louisiana Lottery, said in the news release:

“This has been a collaborative partnership to responsibly grow our scratch-off products for the benefit of K-12 public education in Louisiana. In the past several years, we have worked with Scientific Games to look at the full portfolio of games and adjust the game mechanics that build better games with more variety for our players.”

Scientific Games has extensive footprint in US lottery industry

Scientific Games is a key player in the global gaming industry, with a major role in numerous lotteries across the United States. The company’s products and services are responsible for 19 of the top 20 performing lotteries in instant sales and 70% of instant game retail sales in the global market.

Those figures require constant innovation and expansion. SG is continuously securing new games and new partners for its portfolio. Earlier this month, it added Kentucky-based EQL Games to its Content Hub Partner Program, which will bring hundreds of additional options to its library.

Scientific Games has also completed recent deals with the state lotteries in both Washington and Kansas.

In a move focused on its gaming portfolio, the company recently extended an agreement with Fremantle, which will keep titles featuring the famous game show brands The Price is Right, Family Feud, and Press Your Luck in its content library.
