One of the world’s biggest lottery brands will retain its presence in Puerto Rico.
Scientific Games, a global lottery leader providing draw games, Keno, instants, and other online lottery games, recently announced an extension to its agreement with the Puerto Rico Lottery (Lotería Electrónica) to remain in the US territory for at least the next eight years.
The new contract will keep Scientific Games as the Lotería Electrónica games, technology, and services provider, while also upgrading the instant game management program that is already in place.
Puerto Rico performs well among US lotteries in per capita sales
Lotería Electrónica is currently ranked among the top 10 US lotteries in per capita draw game sales, and also ranks near the top of the Caribbean region for highest instant game per capita sales.
Players in Puerto Rico can make lottery purchases through Jackpocket, a fully regulated lottery courier service, that has helped deliver increased sales.
The SG/Lotería Electrónica contract is set for eight years, with an option to extend the agreement for an additional two years.
John Schulz, President of Global Instant Products and the Americas for Scientific Games, said in a press release:
“Our teams worked diligently to propose a strategic full-portfolio solution for Lotería Electrónica that builds upon a strong foundation that began in 2005. The overall solution features our most advanced technologies and services supported by a great staff of employees that will power the Lottery for its next era of growth and long-term sustainability.”
SG-Lotería Electrónica agreement has achieved remarkable growth
Scientific Games began working with Lotería Electrónica in 2005 and has helped produce an 81% increase in profits and a 65% jump in sales over an 18-year period through 2023.
Lotería Electrónica selected Scientific Games for the contract extension following a comprehensive evaluation of the company’s lottery games, technology, service offerings, and content library.
In the end, the best partner for the future proved to be the one already in place.
Now, Scientific Games will focus on a number of new initiatives to continue modernizing the Lotería Electrónica system and operations. SG will upgrade the existing central system to an advanced Momentum ecosystem and enhance the player experience at retail locations with WAVE terminals, PlayCentral HD Powered by SCiQ self-service machines, Lottery Inmotion digital advertising displays, along with jackpot signs and ticket checkers.
Scientific Games will also create a new mobile app for Lotería Electrónica aimed at increasing player engagement, featuring second-chance promotions, as well as Keno and jackpot game results.
Revenue from Lotería Electrónica supports social programs throughout Puerto Rico, including the following:
- College scholarships for public school students
- Health and wellness initiatives
- Housing subsidies for seniors
- Sports and recreation programs
- Roads and infrastructure improvements
Scientific Games has built an impressive collection of industry partnerships
Scientific Games, meanwhile, has remained one of the busiest operators in the lottery industry with continuous expansion of its partnerships and portfolio.
Last month, SG announced partnerships with a pair of European entities. UK-based Jelly Entertainment, a company that specializes in both social and real-money play with slot titles such as CleoPatrick and Big Benji, will be included in the Scientific Games Content Hub.
The same goes for Allodium Games, a Prague-based company known for its online scratchcards and robust game library that includes more than 100 titles.
The latest additions to the SG Content Hub will further enhance the Scientific Games brand. It claims approximately 150 government-regulated lotteries worldwide, with a resume that includes 50 countries and 19 of the top 20 performing lotteries in terms of instant game sales.
