A worldwide lottery leader will continue its work in Arizona.

Scientific Games, the world’s largest producer of lottery products, including instants, lottery draw games, and more, recently extended its agreement with the Arizona Lottery for three more years. An additional option could push the deal well beyond that.

Scientific Games will further enhance the Arizona Lottery operations by providing an improved central gaming system, along with next-generation vending via SCiQ technology.

“Scientific Games has been a trusted partner of the Arizona Lottery for 43 years and we are proud to continue our partnership into the coming years,” Alec Thomson, CEO of the Arizona Lottery, said in a press release. “As industry leaders in central gaming system operations for lotteries across the US and the world, Scientific Games will continue to support the Arizona Lottery in driving meaningful impact for Arizona communities through ticket sales.”

Scientific Games has productive history with Arizona Lottery

Scientific Games has provided technology systems and support for the Arizona Lottery since 2016 and has delivered numerous upgrades since the onset of their relationship. Over the past eight years (2016-2024), the company’s technology has helped fuel an impressive 73% growth rate in the Arizona Lottery’s total sales.

Currently. Scientific Games has a hub for the Arizona Lottery in Phoenix, where the company provides comprehensive marketing, analytics, technical, and operational support for the lottery system. SG’s integrated services also assist the approximately 3,500 lottery retailers across the state.

From a games perspective, SG has offered scratch-off products for the Arizona Lottery since 1981. The new agreement will help the two entities approach five decades together.

John Schulz, Scientific Games President of Americas & Global Instant Products, said in the press release:

“We started with the Arizona Lottery at its beginning with the launch of the instant product portion of their business and have supported them for the last eight years with our lottery gaming system technology, which has served the Lottery very well. Our teams and technologists have worked hard to build a strong partnership with the Lottery through service excellence and continually modernizing the technology that supports its sales – ultimately driving maximum funding for good cause programs in Arizona.”

Arizona Lottery supports wide-ranging causes

The Arizona Lottery helps to support numerous projects across the Grand Canyon State, with proceeds directed toward higher education, environmental conservation, business/economic development, as well as health and human service programs.

Recent data shows a healthy undercurrent of growth in the Arizona Lottery system. As of June, the Arizona Lottery’s 2024 fiscal year sales were 1.4% ahead of the previous year and 6.5% better than the projected budget.

Investments in various technologies have certainly contributed to that growth. Scientific Games’ SCiQ systems have been utilized to track sales trends and data, while also dispensing lottery products.

In addition, Lotto.com launched in Arizona in June via a partnership with the state lottery. The platform offers retail scratch tickets and other products within the state.

The ability to supply scratch tickets online is a key element of the new technology. Scratch ticket sales are expected to significantly outperform sales of draw games in the next five years.
