Kansas is set to start an iLottery.
On Monday, Pollard Banknote Limited (PBL) announced it had signed a contract to provide a full turnkey iLottery solution for the Kansas Lottery.
The announcement said that Kansas would join the states with online lotteries beginning in early 2025.
The Kansas Lottery confirmed with PlayiLottery that the plans are indeed in motion and scheduled to take place as Pollard Banknote laid out:
“Giving our players the ability to purchase our products in this fashion is something they have wanted for a very long time,” Stephen Durrell, Executive Director of the Kansas Lottery, told PlayiLottery. “We are excited to be able to provide new games and purchasing options, safely and securely, for players in the state. Just as we were pleased to bring Kansas sports betting through mobile applications, we are happy to now be able to provide players this new opportunity under existing law.”
PBL already working with 4 US online lotteries
Pollard Banknote first tapped into iLottery in 2014 when it helped the Michigan online lottery launch. Soon after, NeoPollard Interactive would debut and eventually aid online lotteries in Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina, and New Hampshire.
Those four markets represent more than 70% of iLottery wagers in the United States.
Recently, the company announced it would be supporting West Virginia with its online lottery launch on Oct. 6.
Pollard Banknote’s iLottery solution offers a complete catalog of products for its iLottery programs.
Upon launch in Kansas, state consumers will be able to play lottery draw games like Powerball and Mega Millions. Instant win games online will also be available through Pollard Digital Games Studio, ones that will be specifically customized for Kansas.
Its player account management system will handle safe and secure registration using age and identity verification. Pollard Banknote will also supply responsible gaming features for the platform.
Doug Pollard, co-CEO of Pollard Banknote, expressed his excitement for Kansas in a press release:
“These are exciting times for the Kansas Lottery and for Pollard Banknote. Our decades-long relationship with the Lottery combined with our game-changing Pollard Catalyst technology and what we believe is the strongest team in the industry will deliver the best player experience and is a winning combination for the Lottery and its players. We look forward to delivering an exceptionally strong iLottery program.”
Kansas will also be using Pollard’s existing PlayOn loyalty system.
Pollard Banknote’s latest iLottery technology started in 2021
Pollard Banknote invested in its own end-to-end iLottery technology in 2021.
That process started with PBL acquiring the Next Generation Lotteries’ group, one of the largest gaming technology companies in the world.
NGL was in early on iLottery in Europe. Its experience, knowledge, and technology helped Pollard Banknote improve its product to meet the iLottery standards in North America.
That purchase led to the Pollard Catalyst Gaming Platform. It is a fully cloud-native, modular, and API-first solution. The platform’s modern design integrates with other solutions, accelerates roadmap development, and enables cutting-edge features such as fully automatic scalability with no constraints for jackpot runs.
Kansas Lottery nears record sales in FY24
The Kansas Lottery is coming off a fiscal year in which it recorded $337.8 million in sales. That was just shy of the $338.1 million record it set in FY23.
Recently, Pollard Banknote Limited also reported positive Q2 and H1 financial results.
The company produced record revenue in Q2 of $137.8 million, up $7 million from Q2 2023. Online lottery has been a big revenue driver.
With the addition of iLottery in 2025, Kansas could set new records over the final half of the fiscal year.
