This year has been a big one for iLottery expansion in the US.

Coming this October, you can add another to the mix of states with online lotteries.

According to a report from the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL), West Virginia will be launching its online product on Oct. 6.

That would make two states adding an iLottery platform in 2024, joining Connecticut. Meanwhile, New Jersey continues to make efforts to join the fold sometime in 2025.

Draw games, eInstants available upon online lottery debut in WV

Last October, NeoPollard Interactive announced it secured a contract with the West Virginia Lottery to provide it with an online lottery system.

This week, the NASPL unveiled that should come a year later on Oct. 6 as part of its iLottery innovations update.

PlayiLottery reached out to the West Virginia Lottery, which confirmed the date is indeed the target.

Upon launch, the state will make multiple lottery draw games, such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lotto America, available for online purchase.

West Virginia is also expected to feature 10 eInstant games. It plans to add two new titles to its library each month.

The online lottery format in West Virginia will be called “iPlay.”

Loyalty program to be included with iLottery

In addition to launching the online playing options, the West Virginia Lottery will introduce a loyalty program that works for retail and online play.

Play On” will be the new omnichannel loyalty program.

Just like iLottery, more states are now offering these crossover solutions.

Virginia Lottery Rewards is a loyalty system that provides points for retail purchases, or through playing the Virginia online lottery.

The New Hampshire Lottery has the My603 Rewards, which is a program available through the New Hampshire online lottery mobile app.

West Virginia is already among those with available online lottery apps. Once iLottery launches, app users will be able to accumulate loyalty points on their mobile devices, while also participating in second-chance drawings and monitoring ticket statuses.

West Virginia iLottery the second launch in 2024

West Virginia’s debut will come on the heels of the Connecticut online lottery getting started this month.

The state had a soft launch of its iLottery on June 10. A full green light for the product came on June 28. The platform features eight different draw games. Fast play and instant win games are not available in Connecticut as of now.

New Jersey put the wheels in motion for an iLottery back in 2022. However, it has not been able to get its online product off the ground.

Last month, the NJ Lottery confirmed with PlayiLottery that it is still working on a number of issues and wouldn’t be launching online sales anytime in 2024.

When West Virginia joins the iLottery mix, it will give the US a total of 15 different states with some form of online lottery option.
