Kansas Lottery Comes Up Just Shy Of Sales Record In FY24

The Kansas Lottery came up just dollars short of a new sales record in fiscal year 2024.

After June brought in $24.6 million in sales, that left the 12-month total at $337.8 million.

Altogether, that was 0.07% shy of the FY23 record of $338.1 million.

When it comes down to total dollars, the difference was $250,615.

While lottery draw games saw an increase in sales, a $4.7 million decline in scratch sales was too much to overcome.

Kansas scratch sales down over 8% since FY21

The decline in scratch sales isn’t a new trend for the Kansas Lottery.

Since FY21, there has been a gradual dip.

  • FY21: $223.8 million, all-time record
  • FY22: $212.6 million
  • FY23: $210.2 million
  • FY24: $205.5 million

Over the last four years, scratch sales have dropped 8.2%.

Considering that these games still account for over 60% of the lottery’s total sales, that number is concerning.

With multistate draw games not as easy to predict, relying on growth in those sales isn’t something the Kansas Lottery wants to do.

Powerball, Fast Play keep yearly sales competitive

While scratch games didn’t produce competitively with the year before, the Kansas Lottery did get a nice boost in other areas.

Powerball saw a 15.2% increase in sales for the year at $50.8 million. That was up over $6.5 million from the $44.1 million of a year prior.

Pull tabs also saw a big jump for Kansas in FY24. That category recorded $8 million in sales this year compared to $6.7 million in FY23.

Over the last 12 months, the Kansas Lottery also introduced its fast play retail option. Even in a limited time, the new games generated $940,766 in sales.

Here’s a look at how all non-scratch games did in FY24 compared to a year ago:

  • Powerball: $50.8 million, up 15.2%
  • Mega Millions: $29.4 million, down 9.4%
  • Super Kansas Cash: $11.6 million, up 14%
  • Keno: $9.8 million, down 3.6%
  • Pick 3: $8.2 million, down 3.8%
  • Pull tabs: $8 million, up 19.5%
  • Lucky 4 Life: $7.9 million, down 0.2%
  • Racetrax: $7.8 million, down 0.2%
  • Lotto America: $5.7 million, down 34%
  • Raffle: $3 million, even
  • 2 by 2: $1.5 million, down 3.9%
  • Fast play: $940,766, N/A in FY23
