Through Aid Of Couriers, Oregon Lottery Sets New Sales Record In FY24

The Oregon Lottery had a lot of reasons to feel good about its fiscal year 2024 results.

Traditional lottery sales set a new record as both scratchers and draw games were up.

Even video lottery terminals (VLTs) saw an increase in revenue.

While Oregon isn’t among the states with online lotteries, it is heavily associated with couriers.

With four couriers working inside the state, it helped push the Oregon Lottery to a 6.4% jump in draw sales for FY24. It also allowed Oregon to witness a rise in scratch sales, bucking the trend in the US for the fiscal year.

That, in turn, led to a 4.5% increase in traditional lottery sales for the year.

Oregon Lottery hits $460 million in sales

Last week, the Oregon Lottery provided sales data for the end of fiscal year 2024.

That showed the state did $460.6 million in traditional sales for the year. It was an increase of $20 million from the $440.6 it produced in FY23.

Both major categories were up, as well.

Straying from the trend we’ve seen for most states, Oregon actually increased scratch sales last year.

The state sold $159.8 million worth of scratchers, up 1.1% from the $158.0 million it did the year prior.

Draw sales saw a big spike, jumping to $300.9 million this year, an increase of over $18 million from the $282.7 million Oregon did a year ago.

Even VLTs performed well for the Oregon Lottery last year.

After an eye-popping $16.12 billion in purchases from the machines, Oregon profited $1.19 billion in revenue from VLTs. That was up from the $1.18 billion in revenue it made off them in FY23.

VLTs have been a high priority for the Oregon Lottery. It recently completed a deal with Light & Wonder to bring over 1,200 new VLTs to the state.

Oregon features 4 lottery couriers

The Oregon Lottery may not allow for online sales, but the state does permit lottery couriers.

These third-party businesses offer online purchases of Oregon Lottery retail games.

Currently, four different courier options are available in the state:

  • Jackpocket
  • Lotto.com
  • theLotter
  • Mido Lotto

Oregon is actually one of the few states that can sell scratch tickets through courier Lotto.com.

While it’s unclear just how many sales couriers make in Oregon, the online access customers have to both products must help.

Another state that offers both scratch and draw tickets through couriers is Ohio. Both states generated record sales numbers in FY24.

The Ohio Lottery saw a 1.9% increase in scratch sales for the year, a 1.7% bump in draw sales, and a 1.8% growth in traditional lottery sales.
