The Kentucky Lottery blew past its previous sales record in fiscal year 2024.
Aided by Kentucky online lottery sales, the state generated $2.10 billion in overall purchases for the year. That was an increase of 14% year over year, up $256.9 million from the previous record of $1.84 billion in FY23.
The increase in overall sales can be almost directly attributed to iLottery.
Online purchases were up $246.7 million YoY.
Kentucky online lottery sales hit $671.4 million
The Kentucky iLottery posted sales of $671.4 million in FY24 according to its annual report sent to PlayiLottery.
That was a 57.1% increase from the $424.7 million the state did in FY23.
Online sales continue to see rapid growth for the Kentucky Lottery. Starting in April 2016, iLottery has brought in big revenue gains each year.
Kentucky keeps adding to its online lottery games library as well, which explains the progressive growth.
It offers:
- Instant Play
- Keno
- Powerball
- Mega Millions
- Cash Pop
- Lucky for Life
- Pick 3
- Pick 4
- Kentucky 5
- Cash Ball 225
Instant Plays remain the biggest source of iLottery sales for Kentucky. That product has seen impressive growth year over year:
- FY16: $0.4 million
- FY17: $5.2 million
- FY18: $10.3 million
- FY19: $17.3 million
- FY20: $33.2 million
- FY21: $118.6 million
- FY22: $226.1 million
- FY23: $394.0 million
- FY24: $634.9 million
This past fiscal year produced the biggest increase in total dollars, even though previous years have seen more growth by percentage.
This was also the largest percentage iLottery Instant Plays had in total sales. In FY24, the online options accounted for 30.3% of the total revenue. In FY23, it was just 21.4%, while it was only 13.5% the year prior.
The state’s Instant Play options include multistate progressive jackpots, something more states are starting to utilize to build on iLottery sales. Overall, the Kentucky Lottery has nearly 100 Instant Play offerings.
Draw sales up nearly $20 million in Kentucky
On top of the success of iLottery, Kentucky saw its draw sales increase in FY24.
The state lottery reported $522.2 million in draw game revenue this past year, $18.7 million more than the $503.5 million Kentucky did in FY23.
When it came to instant games, Kentucky announced $940.8 million in sales. That was down just $2.7 million from FY23’s $943.5 million.
All-in-all, these sales numbers led to a $405.4 million transfer to the state. The record contribution to education was up 5.5% compared to the $384.3 million it provided in FY23.
