MUSL Provides Timeline To 4 New, Updated National Lottery Games

The Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) has mapped out an aggressive timeline for new and updated games to launch across the US.

If all goes as planned, one Fast Play game and three draw games will get a big makeover or a new launch in the next two years.

That’s not even including the big adjustment coming to Mega Millions in April.

MUSL is set to change the landscape of retail and online lottery games in a major way.

When will these lottery changes take place?

MUSL announced its latest timeline for game updates, to be overseen by its new board officers and Product Group chairs.

The rollout will include the following:

  • Jackpot USA Fast Play game: September 2024 launch
  • NFL national game: Fall 2025 launch
  • National for Life game: Spring 2026 launch
  • Potential Powerball enhancement: Fall 2026

Leading the way through these aggressive updates will be Board President Drew Svitko. He is the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Lottery. Svitko wasn’t shy about what’s ahead for MUSL in a statement to NASPL Insights:

“The national games category has seen exceptional growth in the past two to three years, and it underscores MUSL’s commitment to support member lotteries with new development initiatives. MUSL has established a bold product development timeline with exciting new offerings. Lottery stakeholders should buckle up. It’s going to be another year of ‘foot, gas, go.’”

Latest updates on upcoming national lottery games

There’s a lot going on with national lottery games, thanks to the efforts of MUSL.

Here’s a look at the latest for each major update.

Jackpot USA

The first of the big updates is Jackpot USA.

It is a Fast Play game with a $20 price point, but offers a multistate progressive jackpot that starts at $1 million.

Slated to launch before the end of the month, the game will also feature bonus symbol-matching that will have prizes ranging from $10-$50.

NFL national lottery game

The NFL national game has gotten a lot of discussion in the last six months.

Last May, plans were announced for a partnership between MUSL and the NFL to create a national lottery game.

In recent weeks, there have been some updates to the concept.

A few were highlighted during the NASPL 2024 Conference in Kansas City earlier this month. Those updates were provided by Colorado Lottery Director Tom Seaver during his state’s September commission meeting.

Seaver informed his staff the game is a proposed tic-tac-toe grid that will utilize icons of all 32 NFL teams.

The game has been proposed as a draw game, which would see a jackpot winner match the drawn grid with the NFL icons of their choosing or through an auto-pick.

Prize details weren’t heavily discussed, but overall payouts were expected to be 55% of sales. In May, it was noted that NFL merchandise, game tickets, and experiences were to be part of the prizes, as well.

Seaver mentioned that MUSL’s fall 2025 launch might be a bit aggressive, and he believed a 2026 launch to align with the season kickoff may be more realistic.

National for Life game

MUSL is set to combine the Cash4Life and Lucky for Life options into one game.

Currently, $2 and $5 price points are being considered, and a final price is expected soon. Beyond that, there aren’t many other details.

The launch is slated for the spring of 2026. However, it could be pushed up to the fall of 2025 if the NFL game is not ready to launch by the season’s kickoff.

Powerball enhancement

Not much has been addressed about a change to Powerball.

However, with Mega Millions making the move from $2 to $5 in April, MUSL could be looking for similar changes to Powerball.

One thing to keep on the radar is something said by Bret Toyne, the Executive Director of MUSL, during May’s La Fleur’s Conference in Raleigh.

Toyne said MUSL was having conversations with the United Kingdom and Australia about potentially expanding the game beyond US borders.
