A new company is getting into online sales of scratch tickets.

On Wednesday, lottery courier service Jackpot.com announced it is now selling digital scratch tickets in three different states.

Massachusetts, Ohio, and Texas residents can now purchase select scratch options through the online courier.

It’s a big step for Jackpot.com, as it joins the likes of Lotto.com and Jackpocket in offering these types of games.

Wednesday’s announcement brings Jackpot.com into the scratch ticket business.

In the US, scratch tickets account for nearly two-thirds of total lottery sales.

Previously just offering online sales of draw games in select states, Jackpot.com CEO Akshay Khanna discussed his excitement over the latest launch in a press release:

“Unlike traditional draw-based lottery games with set draw times, scratch tickets offer players instant excitement. At Jackpot, we prioritize delivering the fastest and most comprehensive digital scratch card experience, ensuring that the excitement of instant results is always at your fingertips.”

In an interview with PlayiLottery in August, Khanna said the company was on the verge of getting into the scratch business.

With the company live in Massachusetts, Arkansas, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Texas for draw services, Khanna is eager to expand into other avenues like scratch, Keno, and Bingo:

“I think in the near future there will be focus on new products like scratch cards, new products, like potentially bingo, or Keno, or other gaming products that I think the demographic that buys lottery tickets would be interested in purchasing. That, to me, is the five-year timeline. The one-year timeline is really the emphasis on growing in existing states and driving forward in new states.”

Jackpot.com claims to have fastest scratch service

Scratch tickets have been a different process for couriers.

Due to having to purchase a physical ticket from a retailer, the companies have offered limited options online.

Processing the games has also been a challenge, with transactions taking 30-90 minutes according to a report from Eilers & Krejcik Gaming.

Jackpot.com is touting that it “delivers the industry’s fastest online lottery scratch card experience.”

It also completed a business process review by Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) to ensure its method for ordering and processing lottery scratch tickets is accurate and functions as expected for players and the company.

When it comes to game offerings, Jackpot.com includes a variety of price points for each state:

  • Massachusetts: Eight different games are offered, highlighted by the $10 JAWS title.
  • Ohio: Eight different games are provided, ranging from $10-$50.
  • Texas: Seven different games are listed, including the $50 500x and $20 Jackpot Millions.

Lottery courier agreed to partner with AP in June

Wednesday’s announcement is another sign of big developments for Jackpot.com over the last few months.

In June, the courier struck a partnership to become the official lottery results provider for the Associated Press.

As part of that deal, the news source is able to connect readers to purchase lottery tickets through Jackpot.com in states where the company is live. That will now include scratch tickets in Massachusetts, Ohio, and Texas.

Khanna told PlayiLottery that the partnership came about over the AP’s desire to cover major jackpots for Mega Millions and Powerball:

“I do think it’s more than just a simple partnership announcement. I do believe that it’s a little bit of a game changer for the industry. I don’t need to explain to anyone in the media what an incredible reach the Associated Press has. It’s the oldest, largest wire carrier in the world. With the advent of increased billion-dollar jackpots, in the last couple of years, they’ve written more and more articles about the lottery. So, to be able to get our name out there under the banner of a wildly respected and very well-known media outlet, it’s a big deal.”

Just after the AP announcement, Jackpot.com also reached a deal with Global Gaming Data (GGD). The partnership allows customers to purchase lottery tickets through GGD’s widget.

On a broader scope for all couriers, Google announced in July it would start permitting ads from these third-party lottery sellers.

All of these developments help legitimize Jackpot.com and couriers, according to Khanna:

“I would say each of these (news items) in isolation represents another building block in our path to really ingrained legitimacy as an industry. For an industry that is very, very nascent, to be able to put these building blocks together I think presents a real picture of how lottery couriers are, as a whole and hopefully us specifically, are creating the narrative for people that this is a very legitimate business.”
