A Scandinavian export is set to land in the United States. The Virginia Lottery and Finland-based Fennica Gaming have reached an agreement that will bring some innovative online instant games to the state’s lottery system.

Fennica Gaming, an industry leader that has been creating instant titles since 2004, will provide the Virginia online lottery with its eInstant library via the NeoPollard Interactive platform and the EQL Games aggregator.

Scott Kenyon, Deputy Executive Director of Marketing of the Virginia Lottery, shared his excitement in a recent press release:

“As we wrap up four years of having iLottery, it is important for the Virginia Lottery to offer new types of eInstant games to our players to continue growing our player base. The unique games provided by Fennica Gaming offer us the opportunity to attract new players that are looking for casual gameplay and additional value in their experience.”

Popular Fennica games to upgrade Virginia online lottery portfolio

Three of Fennica’s most popular instant options will soon be playable on Virginia iLottery platforms. Those titles are:

  • Miner Jack’s Combo Caverns
  • Wobblyblobs
  • Boulder Blasts

These games will join the Virginia Lottery’s extensive collection of online instants, and many more will be added soon.

Joni Hovi, SVP of Customers and Marketing at Fennica Gaming, said in the press release:

“We are excited to provide the Virginia Lottery the eInstants we have been creating since 2004. We have a vast lottery knowledge through our parent company, Veikkaus, the Finnish National Lottery, and offer games featuring the latest standards and player preferences. We are eager to learn Virginia players’ preferences so we can tailor our offering to meet the Virginia Lottery’s needs through our ‘Games as a Service.’”

Fennica Gaming content library includes diverse options

Fennica Gaming produces eInstant titles in three major categories:

Classic: Built on familiar gameplay and well-known lottery mechanics
Express: Games that deliver deep engagement with instant prizes and fast returns
Entertaining: Provide captivating gameplay similar to popular, high-quality mobile titles

Virginia Lottery recently set fiscal-year records

The Virginia Lottery’s latest investment in its iLottery offerings follows a milestone year in which online lottery sales outperformed retail sales for the first time ever in the state. It was also the first time any US iLottery market’s online sales exceeded yearly retail numbers. This trend could soon spread to other markets.

Overall, the Virginia Lottery sold $2.9 billion in eInstants in the 2024 fiscal year, with profits from all streams totaling $934 million. That figure was the highest in the 36-year history of the Virginia Lottery, whose revenue helps fund the state’s public educational systems.

Could the Virginia Lottery surpass that number in the next fiscal year?

The state is looking to build on its momentum by launching an omnichannel rewards program. It is available via the state’s official mobile app and awards points for various actions. Users can earn points by playing online lottery games, retail options like lottery draw games, or scanning tickets on the app.

Points can be redeemed for bonus games or monthly drawings for other prizes.

The reward system models the successful perks programs that casinos have utilized for many years. And it should help create even more growth in the Virginia Lottery market.
