The South Carolina Lottery saw a dip in its sales for fiscal year 2024.

Unaudited numbers from the state indicate $2.38 billion in overall FY24 sales. That’s a drop of 0.8% from last year’s $2.40 billion the state produced.

South Carolina is not among the states with online lotteries. It also doesn’t include courier sales within its borders.

The state lottery does report “on-line sales.” However, that just refers to the terminals used to validate and dispense the draw game tickets.

Instant sales drop over 1% in South Carolina

Instant games make up the vast majority of sales in South Carolina.

In FY24, South Carolina reported $1.61 billion in instant sales out of the $2.38 billion total. That’s over 67%.

Overall, those sales saw a 1.2% decline compared to last year. In FY23, South Carolina amassed $1.63 billion in instant sales.

For South Carolina, instant sales mean scratch games. The state offers over 40 scratch options that range from $1 to $20.

Among its scratch inventory are a pair of games associated with its local universities. It includes “Carolina Jackpot,” featuring the University of South Carolina athletics logo. It also has “Clemson Jackpot,” highlighting the Clemson University athletics logo.

Partnerships with universities look to be a growing trend. The Iowa Lottery has a similar pairing with Hawkeyes athletics.

‘On-Line’ draw games up slightly this year

The South Carolina Lottery did see some growth in its FY24 sales.

Draw games, or “on-line games” as they are commonly known in the state, produced just under $776 million in sales for the year.

That was a slight jump of 0.25% from the $774.1 million it tallied in FY23.

Powerball was the main reason behind the increase, as it added over $16 million in yearly sales.

Here’s a look at each game’s sales and how it compares to a year ago:

  • Pick 3: $284.6 million, down 0.9%
  • Pick 4: $160.9 million, up 2.4%
  • Powerball: $151 million, up 12%
  • Mega Millions: $81.3 million, down 15%
  • Cash Pop: $66.5 million, down 8.4%
  • Palmetto Cash 5: $31.6 million, up 16.6%
