The Ohio Lottery has handed its video lottery terminals to a new vendor.
After working with Intralot for over a decade, the Ohio Lottery has agreed to a deal with a different brand.
International Gaming Technology (IGT) won the honor, securing a 10-year contract worth nearly $50 million.
The London-based company will now oversee these digital gaming machines at Ohio’s racinos. VLTs operate similarly to slot machines, but aren’t allowed in Ohio’s official retail casinos. They are connected directly to the state lottery and offer multiple options on each machine, differing from usual offerings, like lottery draw games.
IGT wins three-way bid for Ohio Lottery VLTs
IGT was able to secure the contract in a three-way bidding battle with Intralot and M3 Technology Solutions.
According to Cleveland.com, Intralot had a $48.8 million contract with the Ohio Lottery that began in March 2012.
This new 10-year agreement with IGT will be for $47.7 million. As part of the deal, IGT will be responsible for monitoring the VLTs. That means ensuring they use only approved software and that games meet minimum payout requirements. IGT will also track user behavior within the partnership.
Ohio’s VLTs are located around the state at horse tracks. Overall, the state includes over 10,000 VLTs. According to the state lottery, Ohio VLTs did $15.12 billion in sales for fiscal year 2023.
IGT a leader in global lottery
IGT is a global gaming company with a big fingerprint in the lottery industry.
Along with its headquarters in London, it also has major offices in Las Vegas and Providence, Rhode Island.
As a gaming producer, IGT has cracked all seven legalized iGaming markets in the US. When it comes to lottery, IGT features partnerships with Indiana and New Jersey, and is also the official operator of the Italian Lottery.
IGT isn’t new to the Ohio Lottery. Since 2015, the company has been a print vendor for scratch tickets in the state.
