The Michigan Lottery is moving on from Pollard Banknote.
Starting in July 2026, the Michigan online lottery will use another supplier for its iLottery games and related products. The new operator has not yet been named.
Pollard Banknote has partnership deals with more than 60 lotteries worldwide, providing a variety of games and products, including online instant games, pull-tab tickets, mobile apps, marketing services, management support, and more.
Pollard Banknote, Michigan Lottery have had long, productive partnership
The company has had a business relationship with the Michigan Lottery for more than 25 years. In March, Pollard Banknote announced a new five-year contract with the state’s lottery to supply approximately 90% of the instant lottery tickets each year. The agreement also includes one-year renewal options, which could extend the deal for five additional years (up to 10 total).
Doug Pollard, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Pollard Banknote, said in a press release following the five-year extension:
“We are honored to be selected as the primary supplier of instant game tickets to the Michigan Lottery. We deeply value the relationship we have built with both the Michigan Lottery and the communities in which we operate within the state. As a testament to our successful collaboration and efforts to deliver outstanding games and innovative retail solutions into the Michigan market, we take pride in having contributed to four-fold sales growth since the start of our partnership almost 30 years ago. We look forward to continued success and growth in the years to come.”
The Michigan Lottery and Pollard Banknote have produced some impressive results during their partnership. From fiscal year 2013 to 2023, instant ticket sales per capita in Michigan increased 182%, compared to 66% across the rest of the US.
Pollard provided about 90% of the state’s instant lottery games during that span, as well.
The operator also has a significant footprint in Michigan’s business sector. It currently employs approximately 375 workers at facilities across Michigan. Furthermore, Pollard’s manufacturing plant in Ypsilanti produced an estimated 7 billion instant tickets for US and global lotteries in 2023.
MI Lottery continues to be among leaders in US
The Michigan Lottery, which uses its revenues to help support the state’s public education, is one of the most vibrant lottery systems in the United States. During a 10-year period (2013-2023), the Michigan Lottery ranked No. 7 among states in the US in per capita lottery sales.
This month, the Michigan online lottery will celebrate its 10-year anniversary of iLottery games, which were first introduced on August 11, 2014.
The state is also committed to responsible gaming.
In July, the Michigan Lottery announced it would begin using 1-800-GAMBLER for its responsible gaming services. It’s the world’s largest problem gambling helpline network in terms of call volume, population served, and geographic area covered.
These continued efforts and investments should help keep the Michigan Lottery as an effective revenue stream for the state’s public educational systems. Since it debuted in 1972, the Michigan Lottery has contributed more than $28 billion to support public education.
