Many state lotteries around the US raise funding for education.
Now, one of the biggest couriers in the country is doing the same.
Lotto.com recently held its first annual “Back to School Giveback Day.” The lottery courier partnered with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County in New Jersey, raising $10,000 for youth programs.
New Jersey is working toward joining the states with online lotteries. However, couriers like Lotto.com offer online sales of retail lottery tickets in the state with the blessing of the New Jersey Lottery.
Lotto.com aids New Jersey youth in hometown
The first “Back to School Giveback Day” brought in $10,000 just before the back-to-school season in New Jersey.
The funds will help support general operations and youth programs at The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County, which serves more than 3,000 young people each year in Jersey City and Hoboken.
Lotto.com Inc. CEO Thomas Metzger commented on the fundraising effort in a press release:
“We’re incredibly proud to drive meaningful change, as building a strong community has always been in line with our core mission. As a young company, we expect our charitable contributions to increase in the future as we continue to grow Lotto.com.”
Lotto.com was founded and is currently headquartered in Jersey City.
The idea for this event was driven by the company’s “Lotto Impact Team,” a diverse group of employees who oversee cultural, charitable, and workplace initiatives.
Lotto.com boasts that it has contributed over $120 million to support state-funded lotteries across the US, including more than $20 million for New Jersey.
Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop commented in the release about his joy to see homegrown businesses working together:
“As the Mayor of Jersey City, I am especially proud to see two homegrown organizations coming together to positively impact our community. The Boys & Girls Clubs provide critical programs and opportunities for our youth, and this collaboration is a great example of what can be achieved when we work together to build a better city and a better future for all.”
