The Colorado Lottery set a new sales record in FY24 as it inches closer to a milestone.
Last year, Colorado put up a record $900.8 million in sales, a jump of 1.2% from the previous year’s best of $889.8 million.
While Colorado is not among the states with online lotteries, it does feature courier options to help boost sales.
The record sales also led to a new high in contributions to the state at $196.4 million.
All-in-all, it was a big year for the Colorado Lottery, as Director Tom Seaver noted in a press release:
“Our goal to become a $1 billion lottery is in our sight with this year’s tremendous revenue success, and we’ll soon surpass the $200 million mark for our proceeds partners that support our state’s parks, recreation, open space, and wildlife preservation projects.”
Colorado hits lottery sales record for 4th straight year
With FY24 bringing in a new high in sales, it marked the fourth consecutive year that the Colorado Lottery set a new record.
The streak began following the initial year of the pandemic:
- FY20: $658.8 million
- FY21: $794.9 million
- FY22: $826.9 million
- FY23: $889.8 million
- FY24: $900.8 million
Since FY20, lottery sales are up 36.7% in Colorado.
Aiding in the growth is that the state lottery has online sales available through couriers Jackpocket and Lotto.com.
Both can sell draw game tickets to customers in an online format. Lotto.com also offers scratch tickets through its mobile platform. Colorado is just one of six states that supply that feature.
Scratch-off ticket sales dip slightly
Even though couriers offer a rare component with scratch sales in Colorado, the product was still slightly down in FY24.
Last year, the state reported $588.6 million in scratch sales, down 1.4% from the FY23 record of $596.7 million.
In the four consecutive years that the state has seen sales increases, this marks the first time that scratch sales dipped in the process.
Draw games, or “jackpot games” as the Colorado Lottery refers to them, were up 6.5% in FY24.
The state recorded $312.1 million in sales, a new record and the first time the products crossed the $300 million milestone.
That total was up 6.5% from last year’s $293.1 million. Since FY20, draw sales have nearly doubled, from $168.1 million to the record they are at now.
As has been the case in most states, Powerball was the driving force for draw sales in FY24. The multistate game brought in $135.5 million in sales, up 23.4% year over year.
