What’s poppin’, Maryland Lottery players? This week, the Maryland Lottery launched Cash Pop, the popular option among lottery draw games that offers daily drawings and prizes ranging from $5 to $2,500.

Maryland is now the 13th state to debut Cash Pop. Let’s take a closer look.

How Cash Pop works with the Maryland Lottery

Cash Pop has four drawings every day. During each drawing, a single winning number (a Pop) is drawn at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. Players are allowed to select as many Pops as they’d like, including all 15 Pops.

From there, players choose a play amount. Each play amount has nine associated prizes in a specific range:

  • $1 play: prizes from $5 to $250
  • $2 play: prizes from $10 to $500
  • $5 play: prizes from $25 to $1,250
  • $10 play: prizes from $50 to $2,500

If desired, players can purchase Pops for up to 10 consecutive drawings in a single purchase.

The Cash Pop odds are fairly good compared to many other draw games. You have a 1 in 15 chance to win for every Pop you select.

Can you play Cash Pop online in Maryland?

No. Maryland’s online lottery options are very limited. You can basically only buy subscriptions for select draw games (Powerball, Mega Millions, Multi-Match, and Cash4Life). Cash Pop is not included among the games you can subscribe to in Maryland.

There was a brief glimmer of hope for Maryland iLottery earlier this year, but the bill stalled and didn’t get voted on by the legislative deadline in March.

A different type of lottery expansion could hit Maryland soon, though. House Bill 1252 goes into effect on July 1, clearing the way for studies about the efficacy of video lottery terminals (VLTs) at BWI Airport.

Cash Pop on the expansion path

Maryland is the latest state to bring Cash Pop to its lottery players. On April 14, Michigan also launched Cash Pop.

States have different structures and drawing times for their Cash Pop games. Some have rapid drawing schedules, while others host between one and five daily drawings.
