Part of Catena Media since 2022, Matthew Bain is the former Content Manager at PlayiLottery, where he oversaw editorial and evergreen content to make the site as helpful as humanly possible to anyone who visits. (Thanks for visiting!) Matthew has led various Catena sites through crucial, high-interest moments in the US gambling industry, from California's Prop 26 vs. Prop 27 battle, to sports betting launches in Massachusetts, Kentucky, and North Carolina, to ongoing iGaming legislative efforts in states such as New York and Maryland.

Before becoming content manager at PlayiLottery, Matthew directed the newsfeeds for Catena Media’s regional sites — including those in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Virginia, Georgia, and North Carolina, where legal online lotteries are a part of those states’ thriving online gambling markets.

That experience made Matthew uniquely suited to oversee PlayiLottery. But he also has a wealth of knowledge from covering other aspects of online gambling, including sports wagering launches (Massachusetts, Kentucky, and most recently North Carolina), iGaming, and gambling legislation of any kind.

Journalism background

Prior to joining Catena Media in 2022, Matthew won 10 statewide and national journalism awards during six years as a reporter and editor for the USA TODAY Network. Matthew’s work primarily appeared in the Des Moines Register, but he was also featured in the Detroit Free Press, Indianapolis Star, Arizona Republic, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and USA TODAY. Throughout his career, Matthew’s bylines have also appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Seattle Times, and Orange County Register.
