Pennsylvania iLottery Receives iCAP Certification For Responsible Gaming

Posted - Updated

Last week, the Pennsylvania online lottery, PA iLottery for short, received a rare distinction from the National Council on Problem Gaming (NCPG).

Developed and managed by Scientific Games, the PA iLottery platform received the NCPG stamp of approval with Internet Compliance Assessment Program (iCAP) certification.

Responsible gaming standards met

This certification is the first and only certification focused on US-based online responsible gaming regulation.

Keith Whyte, executive director of NCPG, lauded the platform, saying:

“We congratulate the Pennsylvania Lottery and Scientific Games, both organizational members of NCPG, on achieving the iCAP certification. Our rigorous assessment process provides the Lottery and Scientific Games with specific, actionable feedback to help better protect players and reduce problem-gambling-related harm.”

The iCAP certification is a recognition of a lottery program’s compliance and adherence to responsible gaming standards set by the NCPG. For lottery programs, there is no higher honor when it comes to certifications.

Pennsylvania one of just four states certified

Very few lottery programs meet the certification criteria. Pennsylvania joins three other states that hold the iCAP certification; Georgia, Kentucky and Michigan.

Drew Svitko, the Pennsylvania Lottery’s executive director, said of the announcement:

“By working with Scientific Games, the Lottery team and responsible gambling experts in the industry, we were able to take a deeper dive into our iLottery program’s Responsible Gambling Initiative and ensure we are doing the right thing. This certification is testimony of our commitment to ensure that we are providing iLottery players with responsible gaming tools they need to manage their play responsibly.”

Pat McHugh, lottery group chief executive for Scientific Games, was also happy to share his thoughts on the achievement, stating in a news release, “We are passionate about healthy play and congratulate the Pennsylvania Lottery on its industry leadership to responsibly deliver entertaining digital lottery games to its players.”

Scientific Games platform quality recognized

Scientific Games is perhaps best known as a developer of online gaming platforms and content. The company is a member of the NCPG and many other responsible gaming organizations. Scientific was among the first to be certified by the World Lottery Association as a “Responsible Gaming Supplier.”

Additionally, Scientific Games has garnered a lot of attention in the growing US sports betting industry, not just for its quality of content but also for its designation as part of the Global Lottery Monitoring System. This system is tasked with monitoring the integrity of sports betting across the globe.
